My Trans Story

My Trans Story is a compelling and insightful evening of storytelling written and presented by trans and gender diverse people and their loved ones.

Stories have been developed through a workshop process facilitated by Lisa Freshwater, founder of FEM and board member of Trans Pride Australia.

The cast of My Trans Story is fluid and can feature both established personalities and emerging speakers selected from the events location.

Each story feeds into the overarching theme which varies with each

distinctive cast, location and time, but always supports our vision – to tell

human stories that honour trans histories, reveal the unique perception we

have of the world and educate and provide a language to discuss and

demystify the trans experience.

The evening can be topped and tailed by a musical number by one of the performers.

Woven in to each story is the line;

I am (insert name) and this is my trans story.

ABOUT MY TRANS STORY

My Trans Story premiered as Trans Stories – A Celebration in Pride Week, at the Stone Wall Hotel on Sydney’s Oxford Street, produced by Trans Sydney Pride in June 2017.  It was an evening of storytelling by the trans community for the trans community affirming and celebrating our struggles and victories.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Trans Sydney Pride went on to produce Trans Stories – 40 Years, headlining Mardi Gras’ Queer Thinking festival at Carriageworks in February 2018.  The evening was directed by Lisa Freshwater from FEM and presented stories that traversed the four decades of Mardi Gras, exploring the community’s history, it’s placed in the LGBTQI+ community and its unique perception of the world.

Trans Stories – 40 Years was a resounding success.  It sold out two weeks before the event and received three standing ovations.
